Well, this is the outcome of one of our latest briefs. The brief is called 'unpossesed' and it is about things that once meant something and now, for whatever reason, they don't. So I went a bit crazy (!) and thought of technology, and how suddenly it seems that people are looking back, trying to find stuff that maybe 2o odd years ago was the latest and now is just junk. But hey, its nice to remember this things ( if you do) or at least try to imagine how cool it might've been. Anyway, there is that element of nostalgia, and how it kind of distorts the idea we have of ' the past' ( and here I must say there is clear influence in this essay I read by Linda Hutcheon about Irony and Nostalgia, great.) And yeah, it seems like we tend to idealize the past and forget what it really was, sometimes. Then, about 2 weeks ago we were in NYC (so good...) and I bought this great kaleidoscope thing that you can put in front of your camera and it takes rad pictures!But because its meant to simulate a camera pictures come out circular and with this black ring . So then I though it was an interesting metaphor for what we do with the past, and how we change it into this distorted but beautiful image, just like the kaleidoscope.
